Opticianry
As part of the developing societal level, the demand for wearing glasses is on the increase; this has resulted in the establishment of new retail firms, totally based on importing. Thus, the number of wholesalers dealing in frames and lenses for glasses has increased in the sector. Renewal and development in the sector started after the 1980s, and the sector has made a big progress in an attempt to forward each layer of the sector, from the manufacturing and laboratory tests to retail sales, to the level of advanced and developed countries. For this reason, the program of Opticianry was established in Nisantasi University parallel to the global developments. With the establishment of this program, our university aims to train the man power required by the health sector growing and developing in the country and the world at a fast pace, and to provide its graduates with training and education based on evidence-based actual medical information and modern technology in their fields. The aim of the program is, however, to train health staff to work in field of Opticianry. The graduates of the program are entitled as ‘optician’ and can supply the optical tools designed to correct the visual disorders and apply them to the patient; they can also sell the prescription glasses, any kind of lens, frames for glasses, protctive glasses and sunglasses.
